Neutrino Symmetries from High to Low Scales

چکیده

Proposed symmetry relations, e.g., quark-lepton complementarity (QLC) or tribimaximal mixing (TBM), need to be imposed at a high scale ∧ ∼ 1012 GeV characterising the large masses of right-handed neutrinos required to implement the seesaw mechanism. RG evolution down to the laboratory scale λ ∼ 103 GeV, generically prone to spoil these relations and their predicted neutrino mixing patterns, can be made to preserve them by appropriately constraining the Majorana phases α2,3. This is explicitly demonstrated in the MSSM for two versions of QLC and two versions of TBM. A preference for α2 ≃ π (i.e. m1 ≃ −m2) emerges in each case. Discrimination among the four cases is shown to be possible by future measurements of θ13.

Democratic Neutrino Mixing and Radiative Corrections

The renormalization effect on a specific ansatz of lepton mass matrices, arising naturally from the breaking of flavor democracy for charged leptons and that of mass degeneracy for light neutrinos, is studied from a superhigh energy scale M0 ∼ 10 13 GeV to the electroweak scale in the framework of the minimal supersymmetric standard model. We find that the democratic neutrino mixing pattern obt...

Hierarchical neutrino mass matrices, CP violation and leptogenesis

In this work we study examples of hierarchical neutrino mass matrices inspired by family symmetries, compatible with experiments on neutrino oscillations, and for which there is a connection among the low energy CP violation phase associated to neutrino oscillations, the phases appearing in the amplitude of neutrinoless double beta decay, and the phases relevant for leptogenesis. In particular,...

Threshold effects on the mass-scale predictions in SO(10) models and solar-neutrino puzzle.

We compute the threshold uncertainties due to unknown masses of the Higgs bosons on the predictions for the intermediate and unification scales, MI and MU respectively in SO(10) models. We focus on models with separate breaking scales for Parity and SU(2)R symmetries since they provide a natural realization of the seesaw mechanism for neutrino masses. For the two step symmetry breaking chains ,w...

Correlating μ Parameter and Right - Handed Neutrino Masses in N = 1 Supergravity

The minimal supersymmetric standard model, when extended to embed the seesaw mechanism, obtains two dimensionful parameters in its superpotential: the µ parameter and the right-handed neutrino mass M N. These mass parameters, belonging to the supersymmetric sector of the theory, pose serious naturalness problems as their scales are left completely undetermined. In fact, for correct phenomenolog...

Neutrino Mass Matrices in Models with Horizontal Symmetries

We have studied the most general neutrino mass matrices in models with SU(2) and SU(3) horizontal symmetries. Without going into the details of the models it is possible to write down the effective operators, which predict the structure of the Majorana neutrino mass matrices. Unlike other extensions of the standard model, the structure is now independent of the effective Yukawa couplings and de...
